Our primary focus is providing affordable reproduction clothing for the budget-conscious living historian. Our standard prices reflect this and are for clothing which is authentic on the exterior. However, please note that modern sewing techniques might be used on the interior to help keep costs down.
For those whose budgets are less constrained, we also offer hand-detailing for additional hourly rates. Another option to consider is to request us to leave unfinished those details that in a totally period-correct garment would be done by hand, e.g. button holes and finishing seam edges and to save money by doing the hand-finishing yourself.
We have handled a variety of custom-order commissions for clients based on the clients' own ideas. However, we assist in this process by providing advice and documentation based on similar original garments we have seen and photographs and fashion plates of the period.
To help clients in this regard, and as a resource for fellow students of Civil War era clothing, we have created the "Learn About" articles on this site, featuring photographs of original garments, cartes de visite, fashion plates from Godey's Ladies Book and Peterson's Magazine, and text extracts from printed works of the period.
